Global Developments

European Union’s AI Act Implementation:

The European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act), the world’s first comprehensive AI regulation, entered into force on August 1, 2024. This regulation establishes a framework for AI systems, categorizing them based on risk levels and setting compliance requirements accordingly.

United States’ National Security Memorandum on AI:

On October 24, 2024, President Joe Biden signed a memorandum aimed at advancing U.S. leadership in AI, emphasizing the safe and trustworthy development of AI technologies for national security purposes.

South Korea’s AI Basic Act:

South Korea’s National Assembly passed the AI Basic Act on December 26, 2024, laying the foundation for national AI development and establishing guidelines for ethical AI use.

New York State’s AI Monitoring Law:

Governor Kathy Hochul of New York signed a law on December 27, 2024, requiring state agencies to review and report their use of AI software, ensuring ethical standards are maintained in public services.

Illinois Supreme Court’s AI Policy

National AI Strategy 2024-2025 Action Plan

Draft Law on Artificial Intelligence

A draft law on AI was submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on June 24, 2024, aiming to establish a regulatory framework for the safe, ethical, and fair use of AI technologies, ensuring the protection of personal data and privacy rights.

Establishment of AI Committees

Turkey has strengthened its AI infrastructure by forming new legal and ethical committees, supported by international AI experts, to oversee AI developments and ensure compliance with global standards.
